La Lealtad, Goosebone and Esteban Carreras Cigars
When this publishes I should be on a plane to Tampa for a could days. My only plan right now is to go to the JR Cigars outlet in Tampa with hope that the Flyers vs. Lightning game is on (and the Flyers win!). I'll spend Sunday and Monday poking around Ybor City, I suspect. Holler if you're in the neighborhood. As usual, I smoked a trio of new-to-me cigars this week.
La Lealtad Gordo

- Size
- 6″ x 60 gordo
- Wrapper
- Ecuador Rosado Oscuro
- Binder
- Honduran and Nicaraguan
- Filler
- Honduran and Nicaraguan
- Made by
- My Father Cigars, Honduras factory
I started with the La Lealtad from My Father Cigars. I think this is their second release from the Honduras factory, it has an Ecuador Rosado Oscuro wrapper, Honduran and Nicaraguan binders and Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. I smoked the gordo, 6″ x 60. This cigar burned perfectly, was very pleasant with a bit of a sweet leathery flavor. Not my favorite profile, but I did find it to be pleasant.
Goosebone Churchill

- Size
- Churchill
- Price
- A bundle of ten for under $50
- Gives back
- A portion goes to homeless veterans and Cigars for Warriors
I had picked up the La Lealtad at Goose's, where I also picked up some Goosebone cigars. This line is a budget priced bundle, I think you can get a bundle of ten for under $50, a portion of which is donated to homeless veterans and Cigars for Warriors. If I remember correctly, these are made by Esteban Carreras. I believe this to be a medium fill cigar, although that's only based on the low price, it burned as well as any long fill cigar. It has a pleasing cane sugar sweetness. I admit I was hesitant to try this, what if I didn't like it? I like John, he's always been very kind to me, and I support anything that benefits veterans (my day job involves veterans). It was a very good cigar, enjoyable and easy on the pocket. I love that it's available in a Churchill!
Esteban Carreras Las Cañas

- Size
- Toro
- Wrapper
- Nicaraguan Habano Maduro
- Binder and filler
- Nicaraguan
- Note
- Sweet capped, tobacco sprayed with sweetened water
I figured I'd smoke an Esteban Carreras cigar that John had given me, knowing nothing about this particular one. It was a nice, dark toro, what could go wrong? Little did I know that the Las Cañas is a sweetened cigar. Not only is is sweet capped, but apparently the process includes spraying all the tobacco with a sweetened water upon rolling. This makes it a very sweet cigar. I didn't mind it. It has a Nicaraguan Habano Maduro wrapper, and Nicaraguan binder and fillers. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it didn't suck, it was quite tasty. Thanks John!
That's all for today, until the next time,
